Davis County Date Nights

Gluten Free Friendly Restaurants in Davis County that are our Date Night Favorites

My husband was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2019. One of the saddest things was knowing that he wouldn’t be able to eat some of his favorite foods. This meant that some of our favorite date night locations were out of the question. Most restaurants offer options for gluten-free, but not all of them are delicious or something that my husband would generally order. Others have gluten-free options but aren’t as careful as we’d hope in avoiding cross-contact.

After years of research and taste testing, I’m excited to have this post that I put together in 2020 updated with a lot of our gluten-free favorites for date night! We will continue to update the post with more restaurants as we try them out or as they open the area. Bookmark this post or pin it for quick reference when you’re planning a date night involving someone who eats gluten-free.

Gluten-Free Friendly Restaurants in Davis County

Gluten-Free Restaurants at Farmington Station Park

Waffled

125 E Promontory, Farmington
One of our favorite locally-owned restaurants at Station Park is really careful with their gluten-free waffles, even using a separate waffle iron, so you can eat here and know that you aren’t risking feeling sick later on. They’ve changed owners a few times in recent years, but we went recently and think they are more delicious than ever! Give them a try for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert!

Slapfish

254 N University Ave Q-010, Farmington
We aren’t big seafood eaters, but we’ve heard this restaurant has a lot of gluten-free options. Most of their menu is or can be made gluten-free. They’ve noted on social media that even their clam chowder is gluten-free because they use a cornstarch slurry instead of a roux to get the creamy consistency. If you’re a big fan of seafood, check them out!

P.F. Changs

905 W W Promontory, Farmington
P.F. Changs have some great options on their gluten-free menu. And I’ve been told that the gluten-free options are prepared in a separate wok, in another area of the kitchen. They are brought out to your table on a different colored plate than all of the other dishes, so you know exactly which one is gluten-free.

Twigs

155 N E Promontory, Farmington
This is my personal favorite date night restaurant, and they get rave reviews from gluten-free eaters. Their menu has many gluten-free options including a gluten-free pizza crust and burger buns that are said to be some of the best around.

Vessel Kitchen

320 N Central Ave, Farmington
Farmington Station Park’s newest restaurant opened south of Chick-fil-a, where Roxberry Smoothies and Subway were previously located. We haven’t had the chance to try them out yet, but they are often recommended in local gluten-free groups. I checked out their menu and they have clearly labeled items that contain gluten. There are a lot of options without gluten so a lot of great choices for date night.

Aubergine Kitchen

1076 Park Ln Suite 103, Farmington
Located next door to Cabela’s, in a newly built area. They offer a variety of Mediterranean meals with many that are gluten-free, vegan, and/or dairy-free. The menu is well marked and I’ve heard from people who frequent their Lehi/American Fork location that they do a great job avoiding cross-contact for those with celiac.

Sticky Bird Red Barn Farms

504 Station Pkwy, Farmington
Technically, they are north of Station Park, by McDonald’s in Farmington, but it’s close enough to be lumped in with Station Park. They have five stars on one of our favorite gluten-free apps and many recent reviews, including many from individuals with celiac. This restaurant is a sister to Winger’s, run by Red Barn Farms nearby, and so good! You can order chicken and fries and enjoy all the goodness they have to offer.

Gluten-Free Options in South Davis County

Joy Luck

566 W 1350 S, Woods Cross
This is one of our favorite places to eat for date night and recent reviews on our favorite gluten-free app say that they can make almost anything on their menu gluten-free. Chinese food is one thing that is really hard to do gluten-free because of the batter and the sauces so finding a good restaurant that can make the majority of their dishes gluten-free is amazing! My husband loves to stop by on his lunch break, and they always know what his order is. The Mango Chicken and the Lemon Chicken are both unique and delicious dishes!

The Mandarin

348 900 N, Bountiful
Another local favorite for Chinese food is The Mandarin in Bountiful. They have a separate and extensive gluten-free menu that notes that they fry their gluten-free menu items in a separate, dedicated fryer. This is a great option if you are looking to satisfy a Chinese food craving!

Our Kitchen Cafe

985 N Redwood Rd, North Salt Lake
If you are looking for classic breakfast or brunch options, this restaurant out on Redwood Road is the place to go! They were receiving lots of great reviews in the Gluten Free Utah Facebook group, so we planned a time to go, and it didn’t disappoint. You can order gluten-free pancakes, classic breakfast foods, omelets and more!

Annie’s Cafe

74 W 500 S, Bountiful
One of the local food truck businesses opened up a storefront on 5th South in Bountiful. They offer a variety of dinner crepes, sweet crepes, and cafe-style beverages. And they have gluten-free options available! This would be a fun place for a brunch date or even just to pick up dessert.

Arella Pizzeria

535 W 400 N, Bountiful
The atmosphere at Arella is fun and classy and perfect for date night. They have gluten-free pizza crust and amazing salads. We’ve been here a few times in recent years and the food is delicious. Their flavors are unique and I haven’t had one that I didn’t like. If you’re looking for something new, Arella is your place.

Cubby’s

570 W 500 S, Bountiful
This has quickly become one of our favorite spots for lunch dates on our own or with our kids. There are plenty of gluten-free options on the menu, including a gluten-free bun for sandwiches or burgers. The best news is, all of their fries are gluten-free as well and really delicious!

More South Davis County options are noted below, in the section with restaurants across Davis County.

Gluten-Free Options in North Davis County

Cafe Sabor

200 Main St, Layton
This is a restaurant that has come highly recommended by other friends and family who eat gluten-free. They’re a Mexican/Italian blend from the looks of their menu and the food is rumored to be extremely delicious. They have a few different locations in Utah, but the Layton one is our most frequented. We’ve eaten here a handful of times and I’m not sure why we don’t go more often. Definitely recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere!
Note: On our recent visit to Cafe Sabor, we found out that the chips and fries are made in a shared fryer and are not safe for someone with celiac. This was disappointing because a lot of their gluten-free menu includes chips and fries as the base for the meal. There are still plenty of things to order that are good, but be aware and always ask questions.

Orlando’s

141 Main St, Kaysville
You would hope that you’d be safe ordering from a Mexican restaurant by opting for corn tortillas, but that isn’t always the case. Orlando’s in Kaysville is one place where you know you can eat without getting sick! They have a separate gluten-free menu and will take extra precautions when you let them know about your food allergy.

HuHot Mongolian Grill

842 N Main St, Layton
This is a restaurant that always comes highly recommended to us for gluten-free date nights. They specialize in “create your own” stir-fry so your dish can be customized to be exactly what you crave.

Cupbop/Ramen 930

743 King St, Layton
Cupbop has put together some really fun collaborative storefronts, and this one is located in Layton. It’s at the top of our list to try for date night. We love that each of the stores inside has gluten-free options for us to enjoy.

Red Fort

1600 Woodland Park Dr, Layton
This restaurant has been compared to Bombay House and they receive nothing but fabulous reviews. The majority of their menu is gluten free and can be enjoyed by all!

Red Robin

1562 Woodland Park Dr, Layton
Whenever we’re craving burgers and fries, this is where we go! Red Robin has a gluten-free bun that is the best one my husband has tasted. They also have a dedicated fryer for their fries, so you can eat the steakhouse (without seasoning), sweet potato, or garlic herb fries. This is the restaurant that by far has the most options of things that someone who is sensitive to gluten can enjoy! We especially love the allergy feature on their menu/website that allows you to view the menu based on what you can safely eat.

Noodles & Co

1032 Park Ln, Farmington // 748 W Antelope Dr, Layton
This is one of our favorite places to grab takeout any time we are planning on a date night at home and we have continued to enjoy their food on a regular basis. They have locations at Station Park in Farmington and Layton. Recently they changed their barbecue sauce, so my husband’s go-to meal isn’t as friendly for him, but there are still lots of great options, and the employees were great to let us know about the change when we ordered.

Warrens/Dylan’s

185 N Main St, Kaysville // 1778 S 1000 W, Syracuse
For an added charge, you can have any sandwich or burger put on a gluten-free bun or gluten-free bread. Their bun is really good according to my husband and definitely one he would eat often. Their house burger sauce contains gluten, so just be sure to order fry sauce instead. You’ll find a location in Kaysville and Clearfield.

Outback Steakhouse

1664 N Heritage Park Blvd, Layton
Our regular date night spot for good steak is not celiac friendly so we hadn’t been for a while. My husband’s parents recommended Outback to us and gifted us a date night there to try it out. We’ve been back multiple times and it is on our short list of places to go eat on a date. I love their salads and my husband always gets a good steak. We’re usually appetizer eaters, but we opt for dessert and order the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under, which is a gluten-free brownie topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce and perfect for sharing on a date.

Gluten-Free Restaurant Chains in Davis County

Winger’s

255 N 500 W, Bountiful // 260 W 200 N, Kaysville // 743 N Main St, Clearfield
Recently Winger’s updated their menus and their restaurants to be more gluten-free and celiac friendly. We love the Bountiful location (next door to Five Guys) and have heard that multiple staff members, including ownership, are celiac so this location is well-versed in gluten-free protocol. There is also a location on 200 West in Kaysville and Main Street in Clearfield.

Costa Vida

Of the fast-food Mexican restaurants, this one is the most gluten friendly. They take care with their food prep and have eliminated flour products from most of their food, with the exception of tortillas and a few desserts.

Chick-fil-a

540 N 800 W, Centerville // 440 N, Station Pkwy, Farmington // 651 Antelope Dr, Layton
If my husband goes out to eat for lunch, this is one of the places that he goes. Order any of the grilled sandwiches with a gluten-free bun. The bun will come in a package and you’ll have to assemble your sandwich, but my husband says it’s pretty good and he’s never gotten sick. Their fries are also free from cross-contamination because they are fried in a dedicated fryer.

Jersey Mike’s

This is probably my husband’s most frequented stop for lunch when he goes out. They have a good gluten-free sandwich bun and take extra precautions when preparing your food to ensure that there’s no cross-contact. He prefers this over a lettuce wrap at one of his other favorite sandwich restaurants because the bread is his favorite part of most meals and eliminating it completely is not enjoyable for him. They have locations in Woods Cross and at Station Park in Farmington

Zao Asian Cafe

The base of the bowls at Zao Asian Cafe is rice or rice noodles, and all of their sauces are gluten-free. The bowls are a really good size and could feed you for a couple of meals if needed. My husband likes the flavor of their teriyaki sauce since he’s found that a lot of other gluten-free teriyaki sauces have more of a soy sauce taste. This is a great option for quick, clean, fresh food! They have locations in Woods Cross and at Station Park in Farmington.

Five Guys

255 N 500 W Ste. A, Bountiful // 2065 N Harris Blvd, Layton
We recently went to Five Guys in Ogden and had a really great experience! They offered my husband a lettuce wrap or burger bowl, used fresh toppings that hadn’t been picked out of yet, and ensured us that the fries were cooked on their own so they were safe for celiacs. They have locations in Bountiful and Layton and are a great option if you’re craving burgers, fries and shakes.

Gluten-Free Restaurants that Are Worth the Trip

Gluten-Free Restaurants in Salt Lake

The Spaghetti Factory

189 Trolley Sq, Salt Lake City // 5718 S 1900 W, Taylorsville
We’ve been going to The Spaghetti Factory for date nights throughout our entire relationship. When my husband was diagnosed, the only thing that bummed me out was that I couldn’t go with him and eat the cheese bread because that would just be mean. Their gluten-free options are decent and always labeled when they come to the table. And the atmosphere is great for date night!

Taqueria 27

149 E 200 S, Salt Lake City // Fashion Place, 6154 S Fashion Blvd #2, Murray
After hearing this restaurant mentioned many times, we decided to try them out. Their guacamole is really good, the tacos are delicious and they even have gluten-free churros with delicious dipping sauce.

Red Iguana

736 W North Temple St, Salt Lake City
Is it sad that we’ve never been to Red Iguana, or Blue Iguana for that matter? We love good Mexican food though and will definitely add this to our date night list for the future. Someone recently asked in a group if everyone preferred Blue vs. Red for gluten-free options and this option won, hands down.

Bombay House

2731 E Parleys Way, Salt Lake City
This is a great Indian food restaurant with great reviews and a good gluten-free menu.

Zest Kitchen

275 S 200 W, Salt Lake City
You have to be 21 or older to eat here, but it comes recommended on many threads on social media. Be aware that the restaurant is vegan. But that can be a benefit since a lot of people who eat gluten-free also eat dairy free.

The Bayou

645 S State St, Salt Lake City
This restaurant was recently recommended in one of the Facebook groups we’ve joined and it’s now on our list to try. They are great about letting you know what is completely gluten-free, what can be substituted to make a meal gluten-free, and what is made in a shared frier.

Asian Star

7588 Union Park Ave, Midvale
If you want good Chinese food in the Downtown area, this is a great one to try!

Siragusa’s Taste of Italy

4115 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville
This locally-owned Italian restaurant is located in a strip mall in Taylorsville and looks very unsuspecting from the outside, but the inside is decorated like Italy and they receive many recommendations and great reviews from local gluten-free groups. My husband ordered pasta on our trip there and said it was some of the best he’s had since his celiac diagnosis. Give them a try!

Gluten-Free Restaurants in Ogden

The Pie Pizzeria

4300 Harrison Blvd #12, Ogden
Pizza that’s free of cross-contamination is hard to come by! The Pie has a dedicated space where they prep and cook gluten-free orders. And a completely separate gluten-free menu with some delicious options. If they wanted to bring one to Davis County, I wouldn’t be mad about it!

Zhang’s Chopstix

4510 Harrison Blvd, Ogden
This is a Chinese restaurant with a good gluten-free menu and great food! If you love Chinese, this is a great place to go in the area.

Aroy-D Thai

1167 W 12th St, Ogden
This place has a certified gluten-free kitchen. And I’ve heard good things about their Thai food as well!

University Greek Broiler

4342 Harrison Blvd, Ogden
If you like Greek food, this is a great place to go. Anything you order should be gluten-free, other than the pitas of course.

Rovalis Ristorante Italiano

174 25th St, Ogden
Good gluten-free pasta isn’t too hard to come by, but a restaurant that serves mainly pasta and has good options for gluten-free is rare! This restaurant comes recommended on many lists and is on our list to try as well.

Sonora Grill

2310 Kiesel Ave, Ogden
If you’re looking for good Mexican food in the Ogden area, this restaurant is highly recommended in gluten-free circles. You’ll want a reservation, but it’s worth the effort!

Warrens Craft Burger

258 25th St #2302, Ogden
Anywhere that gets recommended for a burger with a good gluten-free bun is automatically on our list. My husband isn’t a lettuce wrap fan, so he won’t go for a burger unless it’s got a really good bun. We’ve been here a couple of times for date night and will go back again.

Gluten-Free Restaurants in Cache Valley

Beehive Pub and Grill

255 S Main St, Logan
We love this restaurant because it’s a fun atmosphere, delicious food and they’re really knowledgeable in gluten-free stuff. Gluten-free options are carefully labeled, and the servers we’ve had have been aware of potential cross-contamination with things like chips that are served with a dip. They even offered to bake my husband’s fries so they were safe for him to eat.

Juniper Take Out

35 E 400 N, Logan
This restaurant is a huge hit with those who are gluten-free because it’s all of the best comfort food, made safe for them to eat. The owners have celiac and know what they’re doing. They have a certified gluten-free kitchen and I’ve seen this restaurant recommended more than any other.

HuHot Mongolian Grill

660 S Main St, Logan
This restaurant is one that comes highly recommended with good food and the thorough cleaning of the grills that is done before they make your food.

Tandoori Oven

720 E 1000 N, Logan
If you like Indian food, this restaurant comes highly recommended on many local gluten-free social media groups. We have yet to try it ourselves but have heard nothing but good.

Firehouse Pizzeria

682 S Main St, Logan
We LOVE Firehouse and were disappointed when they left Davis County. So we always make a trip here when we’re in Cache Valley. They have gluten-free pizza, pasta, and great salads. You can even order a gluten-free f’hzookie, which is really the only thing that matters.

The Crepery

29 W Center St, Logan
If you like sweet or savory crepes, this is the place to go! They can make your crepes gluten-free and they taste really delicious

We were overwhelmed when we started trying to eat and date after my husband’s diagnosis. But it’s actually been a lot of fun trying new restaurants, researching menus, and finding the most gluten-free-friendly eateries with the most delicious gluten-free options.

I’m aware that there are generally things that someone with gluten sensitivity can eat almost anywhere they go, but I really want my husband to enjoy food and his life and not feel like he’s settling on date night while I eat something really yummy. He doesn’t love to live on salads, lettuce wraps, grilled chicken with veggies, or mediocre sandwich buns. So it’s been a real goal of mine to find the best of the best that the gluten-free world has to offer!
