This year our 4th of July celebrations are going to feel really strange. We’re used to hometown parades and festivals and big firework shows put on by our city. I was feeling really discouraged about the lack of options for making the holiday feel special this year. And I’m sure a lot of people are in my same boat. The good news is, even though we don’t have our regular traditions, there are still fun things going on to participate in! I’m now looking forward to the weekend and everything we have planned. I hope this small list of local celebrations will help you get excited too!
Davis County 2020 4th of July Celebrations
CenterPoint Legacy Theatre Patriotic Concert in the Park (-ing lot)
This past weekend, CenterPoint started a fun concert series that they’re calling Concert in the Park (-ing lot). Friday and Saturday night each weekend through the summer (is the current plan), they will host one or two concerts in their parking lot, drive-in movie style. The shows start at 7:30pm and 9pm each night. This weekend they’ll be putting on a Patriotic Broadway concert that I’m really excited to attend! If you catch the 7:30 show on Friday night, you’ll be done in time for the next activity on our list. Click here for all of the details and to purchase your tickets.
West Bountiful 4th of July Fireworks
I was so excited when I found out that not all of the firework shows were canceled! West Bountiful will still be hosting their firework show on Friday, July 3rd. The fireworks will be shot off from Lakeside Golf Course, but you will not be able to view them from on the golf course. You are encouraged to watch from the roadways, trails and from your yards in the area. Fireworks will start at 10pm on Friday night. Click here for more details and the exact location of the firework show.
Davis County 4th of July Air Parade - CANCELLED
The air parade has unfortunately had to be cancelled. They’re hoping that it is just postponed, to be done at a later date. We’ll update with details if any become available.
One of the things I always look forward to each year is taking our kiddos to the parade. I was kind of bummed when none of them were happening, but I might venture to say that this option is even better. We’re going to pick up donuts and a bunch of salt water taffy from our favorite grocery store. Then put chairs up in the shade in our yard and watch the air parade that is planned! There will be flights over Davis County, starting at 9am, and after the parade is over, sky divers will land in various cities. It will be a fun activity to start your holiday morning!
Other Fun Activities for the 4th of July Weekend
Bountiful Food Truck League Take Out Night
Every Friday night, The Food Truck League sets up a fun roundup of food trucks in the center of town. This is a great date night option because you don’t have to pick just one type of food. And you can even grab a few different things and enjoy them buffet style together. Click here for more details and to see which trucks will be in attendance this week.
Full Moon Kayak Expedition
An alternative to your classic 4th of July fireworks might be the Full Moon Kayak Expedition happening on Antelope Island. Cost is the entrance fee for the park, and you’ll need to bring your own kayak, but it looks like a lot of fun! You could even make a weekend of it and camp on the island after the expedition is over. Click here for details and to reserve your spot for this weekend’s expedition.
I hope this post helped you think of some fun things you can do this weekend, to make it feel different than every other weekend! I know that I’m really excited to celebrate with my family and even throw in a little date. Happy 4th of July!
