When the kids head back to school, lunch dates became a regular part of our relationship. I’ve always loved a good lunch date, and I never realize how much I miss them until they’re back in our regular date night routine! Every couple should be enjoying a mid-week lunch date, at least once a month, in my personal opinion.

One of the best things about July, in my opinion, are the firework shows! I love cuddling up under on a blanket, watching the fireworks and listening to music, and then sticking around to stargaze for a while afterward.

If you’re less than a fan of winter like I am, I've come up with fun ideas for date nights and family activities that we can enjoy during the cold summer months, and I wanted to share a few of them with all of you!

A tradition that we started the first year of our marriage was to drive around town sometime the week before chocolate, our favorite hot chocolate in hand, enjoying all of the Christmas light displays. Each year I find out about more Christmas light displays in the area and add them to my list of places to visit. Davis County has three different performing arts centers where you can go to enjoy local talent in one of your favorite musicals or plays. They are all great theatres run by amazing people who have a goal to keep music and the arts alive in our community. They would all make a great addition to your next date night!

I love to see all of the ways that people around me are giving back to those less fortunate. I've also seen quite a few couples incorporating service into a date night or two throughout the year and think it's a fantastic idea! The classic date night often includes a meal and an activity. Something like dinner and a movie or lunch and bowling. You might not always have the time needed to enjoy those specific activities on your date nights, and you don’t need to. Going out for dessert or a quick snack can be just as fun, and can fill any amount of time you have to spend together.

I’m so glad that CenterPoint has been able to adjust and create some events we can safely attend and support live community theater for date night.

We’re hoping to start venturing out of the house for more date nights in the coming months. I put together a list of date night activities that you can do outside the house, while keeping yourself and others safe. Some are completely social distanced, and others are still in public but with social distancing protocols in place. I hope you get a chance to take advantage of some of these over the next few months.

In our house, we consider Joy Luck to have the best Chinese food in Davis County. When we lived in Bountiful, we ate there on a regular basis. If we weren't there in the restaurant, we were at home enjoying takeout at least once every couple of months. Now that we live in Farmington, we don't eat there as often, mostly because by the time we'd get our takeout order home, it would be cold. (We're still looking for a comparable restaurant up north and if you have any suggestions, we're open to trying them out.) But if we're going on a date and are craving Chinese food, you'll often find us at Joy Luck.
