Last year, I put together a year of dates for my husband and gave it to him for Christmas. I sat down and carefully planned out 12 date nights that I knew he’d love to go on. Some were planned to take place at home, but the majority were based on activities we’d do together while the kids stayed home with a babysitter. As I’m sure you can imagine, that year of dates came crashing down around us, like the rest of our 2020 plans. Even after things started to open up again, we weren’t always able to get a babysitter or didn’t feel good about going out, especially when it meant traveling outside Davis County.
A date night is one of my go to gifts, especially for my husband. I want to gift him with fun things we have to look forward to doing together in the coming year, but I don’t want to be disappointed if they can’t happen as planned. This year I thought I’d put together a date night gift guide that won’t fall flat in the coming year, no matter what it brings our way.
Gift Date Night for Christmas in 2020
Get them gift cards to redeem whenever
Purchasing gift cards to your partner’s favorite date night restaurant or activity is a great way to gift date night and support local businesses at the same time! Go directly to the source to purchase your gift cards or gift certificates to have the greatest impact on local businesses. You can use them for a future date night out, or for a fun date night at home. Whatever the coming year brings your family and our community, you’ll be ready to continue dating each other!
Order a coupon book
Hear me out on this one, because I know it doesn’t sound super thrilling, but it’s great! For the first half of our marriage, I always had a local coupon book on hand, and I’d refer to it any time we were planning a date. A lot of the discounts in those books are buy one get one type deals and perfect for date night! My friends, Collin and McCall from The Average Daters, put together a Utah area coupon book for the coming year. And the best part about it is, it’s geared specifically toward date night! They’ve thought of it all, from local activities and eateries to some at home opportunities as well. Click here to grab yours!
Put together a date night plan, without a set date for it to happen
One of my favorite things to do is plan out our date nights. Maybe you’ve noticed from the ones I put together and share on Instagram. I love finding the perfect combination of food and fun based on a theme or the area we’ll be in. Something simple you can do for a date night gift is to plan out a few date nights for the two of you to do together in the coming year. Three to five date night plans make a great gift! Or if you’re feeling ambitious, you can plan one for every month!
Create a date night bucket list
Every year, we put together a list of the date night activities that we don’t want to miss out on in the coming year. Put together a bucket list of dates you want to go on with your partner, in the form of a poster, popsicle stick jar, or another creative way to present them. I suggest putting five or six date ideas together for your bucket list. Click here for more ideas of what to include on your date night bucket list.
Use a date night box subscription service
If you’re planning on more at home date nights in the coming year, you mind consider gifting your significant other with a date night box subscription! The company will plan and send you your date night in a box each month. You just have to put that planned activity into action at home one night. Some date night subscription boxes can even be used for more than one date night. Click here for a list of our favorite subscription boxes for date night.
Date night is always a gift on my list! Maybe it’s because it speaks to my love language. But I think you can never go wrong if you gift a really thoughtful date night to the one you love. I hope these ideas help you gift date night this year in a way that helps the two of you look forward to the coming year, and support local businesses in the area.
