One of my bucket list date nights for this year was to head north to Ogden for a night at Wiseguys. As soon as I hit ‘publish’ on that bucket list blog post, I saw that one of our favorite comedians, Alex Velluto, was going to be at Wiseguys within the month. We’d missed seeing him in December due to family events so I knew this had to be our date night out for January. Wiseguys and Warrens Craft Burger went on our calendar for date night and we enjoyed our date this past weekend!
Warrens Craft Burger is one of our favorite places to go for date night when we are in the Ogden area. They have great gluten-free options on their menu and we feel that they are celiac-friendly as well. The Warrens Craft Burger restaurant you’ll find on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street is a higher-end, gourmet sister of the Warrens/Dylans chain of restaurants that we also enjoy visiting in Kaysville. Anything on their menu is delicious, whether you’re feeling up to a burger or something else.
I ordered the Craft Burger which includes fontina cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, and bbq sauce. I chose a side of sweet potato fries, which were served with their fry sauce, and maybe the best part of my meal, although the burger was extremely delicious. My husband, being gluten-free, has found that he most often prefers his burgers as a salad over putting them on a gluten-free bun. He chose the Craft Burger Fork It without the onions, and they replaced the regular dressing it comes with since it wasn’t gluten-free. I should mention that their burgers are made with ground chuck, which makes them extra delicious. We highly recommend Warrens Craft Burger and felt like it was the perfect start to our fun date night.
Wiseguys is located just across the street from Warrens. For this date night, I made the mistake of not purchasing tickets ahead of time, thinking we’d get them at the door to save money in online fees. Don’t be like me, get your tickets online ahead of time for those special events. They were sold out online when we got up to Ogden, but I called them when we were finishing up dinner and they said they start a waitlist and almost always have space. We walked across the street to be there when they open the doors, were first on the list, and only had to sit for a bit before we were given seats.
If you ever get a chance to see Alex Velluto at Wiseguys, or anywhere else he performs, do it! We discovered him when he was the opener our first time at Wiseguys in Ogden and we’ve loved his comedy ever since. Alex involves the audience in his comedy, often going off script when the jokes hit the audience members in a way he notices, and still remaining hilarious as he interacts with the audience. I can’t pick a favorite “bit” from the show because they were all so good. At one point he had an Oregon Trail/Call of Duty joke series going that had me in tears and struggling to breathe.
Laughing together has always been at the center of our relationship and one of our favorite date night activities. Whether we’re watching a comedy special at home, sharing videos and memes we’ve found online, going to local comedy/improv shows, attending something like Alex Velluto’s show or The Johnson Files, or paying the big bucks to see comedians like Jim Gaffigan or Nate Barghatze live. A lot of our date nights revolve around laughter so this date night was perfect for us. The delicious burgers we had before the show were an added bonus! Warrens and Wiseguys is a great date and we recommend it to all of you if you’re willing to drive a bit north.
Tip: We like to park in the parking lot that is located behind the south side of 25th Street. We’ve never found a lack of parking there, even when there are events happening in the area.
