Many families venture south for Davis School District’s Spring Break, hoping to catch sunshine and warmer temperatures. Our family chooses to stay close to home, partially because we adults have to work, but also because we believe there are fun adventures in our own backyard, even when the temperatures and weather are less than ideal. Many fun spring activities aren’t open yet during spring break (i.e., outdoor mini golf), and all of the winter activities for outside (i.e., ice rink and sledding) are done for the season, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of things you can do! Check out the list below and pick one or two things to add to your spring break plans, even if you’ll be out of town for most of it, to support the local economy and enjoy what our community has to offer!
Many of the obvious activities (like bowling, indoor pools, trampoline parks, visiting the library, etc.) aren’t on this list. I wanted to focus on unique ideas that are not often thought of without providing so many ideas that you feel overwhelmed. In addition to checking out the spring break activities listed below, you can find more ideas for spring break when you visit our upcoming events page or download the Davis County Staycation Guide put together by Discover Davis and the Davis County Health Department.
Spring Break Adventures in Davis County
Indoor Fun for Davis County Spring Break
Pizza & Arcade Games at Louie’s
This is on our family’s spring break staycation plans! We love the pizza at Louie’s and have a lot of fun playing in the adjoining Main Street Arcade while we wait for our food and after we are done eating. Visiting Louie’s for pizza and arcade games was on our date night bucket list for the year, and we had so much fun with it that we knew we had to bring the kids along for spring break fun. Click here to read all about our recent date to Louie’s and why we recommend it for family adventures or date night fun.
Tour Mrs. Cavanaugh’s Chocolate Factory
Touring Mrs. Cavanaugh’s is a must-do Davis County activity! Chocolate factory tours must be scheduled by calling in advance. They last 45 minutes, cost $5 per person, include samples of chocolate along the way and an ice cream sample at the end, plus $4 of your tour cost per person is redeemable for chocolate purchases at the end. It’s a win-win-win experience and one of our family’s favorites! Click here for details and how to schedule your chocolate tour.
Laugh with the Improvables
Let the kids stay up late and go to The Improvables show on a Friday at 9:00 pm in Bountiful. The Improvables shows are family-friendly and always entertaining! They perform at the Bountiful Davis Arts Center (90 N Main Street) and the cost per person is relatively inexpensive. Show details are posted each week on their social media pages. Click here to check out their Facebook page.

Spend Time at an Indoor Play Area
One of our favorite things to do as a family is go to a play area and let the kids run wild while we adults chat and take it easy. With the bad weather that’s forecasted, a mid-week play area break might be just what everyone needs. Our kids love to play at any Chick-fil-a or Arctic Circle, as well as Coconut Cove (1040 N 950 W Suite 600, Centerville). I’ve also heard that Kids Zone (340 W 1700 S, Suite A101
Clearfield) is a lot of fun!
Axe Throwing and Barbecue
A cozy idea for the colder, wet weather we’re expecting this year for spring break could include axe throwing and enjoying some good barbecue. Add to the ambiance and fun by having the entire family dress up in plain and/or flannel. Click here for an up-to-date list of two places to throw axes and where to find delicious barbecue food in Davis County.
Outdoor Activities for Davis County Spring Break
Scavenger Hunt at Station Park
If the rain breaks, get outside and explore Station Park in Farmington! The hunt starts April 1st, and all of the details can be found when you click here. If it gets too wet while you’re exploring, you can pop into Barnes & Noble, the Lego Store, or Teton Toys to window shop and maybe find another fun activity to add to your day. While you’re there, stop by PretzelMaker or Dali Crepes for a snack!
Explore a Local Trail
It might be too wet to head to the foothills and canyons above Davis County to explore, but there are a lot of great trails that aren’t muddy scattered around the Davis County valley that you won’t want to miss out on! Jensen Nature Park (3176 S Bluff Rd, Syracuse), Layton Commons Park (437 N Wasatch Dr, Layton), and Lagoon Trail (2 200 W St, Farmington) have fully paved trails that are great for walking and have great views of nature located around and nearby to enjoy. Shorelands Preserve (1002 S 3200 W, Layton) and Farmington Bay (1325 W Glovers Ln) have boardwalk-style trails that are easy to explore and have amazing views of nature around them. If you’re ok with a little dirt and mud, you could explore the USU Botanical Center and Kaysville Ponds trail (80 725 S, Kaysville) or Gailey Park (1105 E Nicholls Rd, Fruit Heights), where the trails are dirt but fairly compact and shouldn’t be too hard to navigate, even when it’s wet. You might even try geocaching while you’re out exploring local trails.

Picnic and Kite Flying at the Park
Although the weather isn’t looking ideal for outdoor fun this spring break, you might find a day or two without rain or snow, when it’s windy and might be fun for flying kites! You can purchase some great kites at Costco, or we’ve found decent ones at Dollar Tree recently. Bundle up and enjoy a picnic under the pavilion at a local park, then spend some time flying your kites in the open field areas. Smoot Park in Centerville (90 W 1500 N, Centerville) has an amazing grassy field that is open and great for kite flying! Please stay aware of small children near the creek that runs on the south side of that field.
Spend the Day Exploring Antelope Island
Although I’ve lived in Davis County for most of my life and am a lifelong Utah resident, it took me until I was in my late 20s to visit Antelope Island. Don’t take for granted the “tourist attractions” in your own backyard. Even if the weather is less than ideal, for $10 you can drive around Antelope Island, watching the wildlife and viewing Davis County from a different perspective. There are a few hiking trails on the island that might be fun to walk and other areas to explore. Click here for information on current conditions on the island, including if the biting bugs are around.
Go Fishing
Rainy, cooler weather is supposed to be perfect fishing weather, right? I’m not a fishing expert, so I could be wrong, but we’re going to share the idea anyway! Click here for great places to fish in the Davis County area. Take your fish home and find a new recipe, then cook together as a family and enjoy your catch.
